If you are taking out a mortgage on your new home, your mortgage lender will require a survey from a surveyor approved by them. This report is a report on value and is for the mortgage lender. It is not a report on the condition of the property.

A house which is in a poor state of repair or which has inherent problems may end up costing substantial sums of money.  This can add up to many thousands of pounds.

A survey will identify issues which may not be apparent or obvious on a first inspection.  Most homebuyers have had to carry out major repairs which they were not expecting.  And which they hadn’t budgeted for.  Not doing one? Its just not worth the risk
